Updates to HPB Procedure Recording in the eLogbook

Updates have been made to the way HPB surgical procedures are recorded in the General Surgery eLogbook, reflecting changes in modern practice and terminology. These revisions follow consultation with specialty surgical and training organisations and align HPB procedure recording with recent updates across other areas of General Surgery.

The changes introduce revised procedure descriptors, with some historic terms removed or replaced. Previously logged cases will not be lost; some entries will be automatically updated, while others may be amended by users where appropriate. Once changed, older descriptors may not be available to revert back to. Selected procedures are recognised on the ISCP as Major Upper GI cases, relevant for CCT requirements.

To support more accurate documentation of trainee involvement in complex surgery, new operation parts have been introduced for certain major HPB procedures. Updates have also been made to the recording of selected endoscopic procedures within the eLogbook.

These changes will be implemented from 24 January 2026. Trainees are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the updates and review their existing logbook entries where appropriate.
