Portsmouth Hospitals Celebrate Silver Scalpel Winner

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has published an article in recognition of the prestigious Silver Scalpel Award 2022, Professor Peter Brennan, on the trust's website.

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) are delighted to celebrate our very own Professor Peter Brennan who has won the ‘Silver Scalpel Award 2022’. This prestigious award is recognised nationally as a mark of training excellence and all nominees are examples of exceptional surgical trainers that inspire all those involved in surgical training.

The Silver Scalpel Award is recognised as the highest award for UK surgical training and is very competitive. Candidates are nominated by trainees from all surgical specialties and across the UK before a shortlist of five nominees are selected and invited to interview by a panel made up of consultant colleagues, senior nurses and other trainees.

Professor Peter Brennan is a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon at PHU and has been with the Trust for a number of years. Speaking of his achievement he said; “I am deeply humbled and quite literally overwhelmed to have been nominated and shortlisted, let alone win this prestigious award.

I have always been committed to training and ensuring the best possible experience and opportunity for the future generation of surgeons, but to be recognised in this way is the most incredible feeling. It is an enormous honour for me and PHU, and I hope my work will inspire others to champion trainees and do everything we can to support them.”

John Knighton, medical director at PHU said; I am thrilled to celebrate Peter’s achievement with him as we recognise the outstanding contribution he has made to surgical training at PHU, and for our community in Portsmouth. This award showcases the dedication, commitment and excellence that Peter brings to his work and we are incredibly proud to work alongside him.”

Congratulations Peter!
