Michael Carvill

I am a General Surgery Registrar in Wessex. I graduated in Medicine from the University of Southampton, completed Foundation Training in Edinburgh, and returned to Wessex for Core Surgical Training. Between the two programmes I undertook a post-graduate diploma in clinical education at the University of Edinburgh during which time I developed and ran a national undergraduate teaching programme and worked to raise aspirations to medicine in schools. 

As a graduate of the University of Southampton BM6 widening participation programme, I am keen to champion fellow students and graduates who have taken alternative pathways into medicine, and to make surgical careers feel accessible to all.

My earliest interaction with ASiT was at the National Conference in Bournemouth in 2017 when I volunteered as a student helper with the Southampton Surgical Society. Since then, I have attended several conferences and presented work, including being awarded the ASiT B.Braun Innovation Prize in 2022.

I'm delighted to take on the role of Wessex Regional Representative. If you are an aspiring or current medical student, trust grade doctor, or trainee at any level, I look forward to working with and learning from you all.
