Israa Hussein

Director of Education

Israa is an incoming General Surgery ST3 in the West of Scotland. She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, having previously completed a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology and a master’s degree in Physiology & Biophysics. She also holds a PGCert in Clinical Education from the University of Aberdeen.

Israa has a strong interest in surgical education, academic surgery, and trainee-led research. She has been involved in a range of projects across colorectal surgery, surgical training, remote and rural surgical education, and national collaborative research. She previously served as ASiT South East Scotland Regional Representative before being elected Director of Education.

As Director of Education, Israa aims to strengthen ASiT’s educational programme and support trainees across the surgical training pathway, from medical school and foundation training through to core training, MRCS, ST3 applications, and academic development. She is particularly keen to improve access to practical, high-quality education and to support regional teaching and events across the UK and Ireland.
