ASiT x Mammary Fold Bursary 2024

Bursary Details:

The Mammary Fold(MF), in collaboration with Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT), is delighted to announce the availability of educational bursaries for higher surgical trainees. These bursaries are intended to provide financial support towards furthering your surgical education and skills. Acceptable activities, that are not part of regular surgical training include but are not limited to:

·       Educational activities

·       Skills courses

·       Workshops

·       Conferences

·       International or national fellowships

·       Research priming

·       Other novel or innovative educational initiatives will be considered with an appropriate and detailed application

Amount: £1000 

Eligibility Criteria:

·       Applicant must be a ST3 or higher surgical trainee (registrar or equivalent) working within General or Plastic surgery with a career goal of specialising in Breast surgery / Oncoplastics

o   Current executive committee members of Mammary Fold or ASiT are not eligible to apply.

·       Applicant must be a member of Mammary Fold AND ASiT at the time of application

·       Bursary activity to be funded must be relevant to the surgical specialty, enhance the applicant's surgical skills or knowledge and not be present elsewhere in training

·       Applications must be received at least 8 weeks prior to the activity start date

Application Process:

Applicants must submit the following:

1.     A completed application form

2.     An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)

3.     A detailed description of the bursary activity the applicant intends to attend, including its relevance to the applicant's current training and future career goals

4.     A letter of recommendation from a current supervisor or consultant

5.     A letter of invitation from the unit/ institution to be visited, if applicable, showing that approval has been given for the intended programme

The selection committee (Mammary Fold and ASiT) will review all applications and award bursaries based on the merit of the educational activity, the benefit to the trainee's education and future career, and financial need

Deadline:1st of December 2024

Successful applicants will be notified via email and will be required to provide receipts of their educational expenses.

Reporting:

In return for the bursary amount provided to the specialty organisation, the applicant will:

·       Submit a brief report for the Mammary Fold and ASiT yearbook outlining their experiences and the perceived benefits of their educational activity to their surgical training.

·       If being utilised for research/quality improvement/audit these need to be presented at an appropriate ASiT and MF conference

·       Trainee to work with ASiT/Mammary Fold organisations moving forward particularly to assist with delivery of courses for higher surgical trainees
