ASiT Deputy Mentoring Lead

The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) is one of the largest independent surgical specialty organisations in the UK. They aim to address issues faced by trainees by advocating for and supporting them, and supplement surgical training by delivering high-quality educational content.
The ASiT Mentoring Scheme was set up in response to the ASiT National Mentoring Survey which highlighted the importance of a mentor for surgical trainees with the majority not able to access one and minimal training opportunities available for those in mentoring roles. The ASiT Mentoring team consists of the ASiT Mentoring Lead and Deputy Mentoring Lead designed to bridge this gap. We are currently advertising for the Deputy Mentoring Lead.

ASiT Sustainability Lead

To coordinate and develop ASiT’s role in this initiative, we will be appointing a Sustainability Lead to ASiT Council starting from November 2024.

The World Health Organisation describes climate change as currently being the greatest threat to human health. Producing approximately 5% of the UK’s emissions, the NHS is both part of the problem and the solution, meaning that we as healthcare professionals have a responsibility to act. The decarbonisation of surgical care has been bolstered by the recent publication of the Green Surgery Report and development of the Intercollegiate Green Theatre Checklist, but awareness and usage remain low. As current surgical trainees and surgical consultants of the future, we have the opportunity to lead the way in the development of high-quality, low carbon surgical care.

Eligibility

  • ASiT Member
  • CT1/ST1 to ST8 (training or equivalent non-training grade)
  • Evidence of previous sustainability experience

Term

  • 2-year term November 2024 – August 2026
