Mr Samer Shamoon

My name is Sam Shamoon, a final-year trauma and orthopaedic trainee currently working at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. I was born in Scotland to Iraqi parents and moved to Iraq as a child. I graduated as a doctor from the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul.

After fleeing Iraq due to life-threatening circumstances following the war, I faced the daunting task of rebuilding both my career and my life from scratch in the UK. Determined to pursue my dream of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, I overcame numerous challenges to reach my current role.

I am married and have two children. Outside of medicine, I enjoy cake baking and decoration—a personal passion I have combined with my medical career by using cakes as an innovative teaching tool to explain complex medical concepts. I am also committed to mentoring and supporting aspiring doctors.
