Jahnavi Kalvala

Jahnavi is a Core Surgical Trainee in Thames Valley on the General Surgery pathway. She graduated from the University of Nottingham with First Class honours in both her BMedSci in Translational Medical Sciences and BMBS. She subsequently completed an Academic Foundation Programme in London, where she undertook research in tissue engineering in paediatric oesophageal models at GOSH.

Jahnavi has a longstanding commitment to widening participation, diversity and inclusion. While at Nottingham, she worked with local MPs to promote medicine as a career to students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. She later expanded this work nationally through the ACPGBI, securing a Royal College of Surgeons grant to deliver widening participation events across the UK.

She is passionate about creating a more inclusive surgical profession and advocating for equitable opportunities throughout medical training and surgical careers. Alongside her clinical training, she is actively involved in translational research within general surgery and teaching medical students.

Outside of work, Jahnavi enjoys playing squash, crocheting, and exploring new restaurants.
