This comprehensive Core Urology course is designed to equip medical students and doctors with essential practical skills and knowledge for managing on-call urology cases, while providing a seamless transition to registrar-level training. Aligned with the urology curriculum of the MRCS, this course offers a robust foundation in key urological principles.
In addition, participants will have the unique opportunity to engage in a discussion on 'What it’s like to be a Urologist?' and receive valuable guidance on ST3 applications from current trainees.

Summary of course:
09.00 Introduction – (10 mins)
55 minute rotational stations, 4 delegates maximum per station – example rotations:
- Wire-guided catheter insertion & Suprapubic cathetrisation using mannequin
- Practical skills in resection (using Endotrainer)
- Flexible cystoscopy
- Emergency scrotal exploration (wet specimens)
- Rigid cystoscopy & JJ stent insertion (+/- simulated TURP/TURBT if available)
- What it is like to be a Urologist?/ ST3 application/ Q&A
There will also be a discussion on emergency management of acute urological conditions during each module.
